Archives without Borders – Call for papers

VVBAD, the Belgium association for archivists, and the KVAN, the Dutch association for archivists, are holding an International Congress titled Archives without Borders on August 30 and 31, 2010 in the Peace Palace in The Hague, The Netherlands. This Congress commemorates the first international archives conference, which took place in Brussels a century ago in 1910. The organising committee is now calling for proposals for papers. Good archives and records management practices are a condition for ensuring continuity, efficiency and transparency of public and private services and stakeholder accountability. The Congress will focus on the importance of archives for good governance in an international context where their significance transcends national boundaries in the globalized information society. Sessions will be organized on the themes 'Archival Solidarity', 'Human Rights and Archives', 'Cross-border Archives', and 'Archives: Formation of the Nation State and National Identity'. We welcome speakers from all over the world. The Congress is supported by the Section for Professional Associations of the International Council on Archives. Proposals for papers on one of the four themes are welcome in English or Spanish, before February, 1, 2010. Archivos sin Fronteras – Convocatoria

El Comité de Organización constituido por miembros de las Asociaciones Profesionales VVBAD (Bélgica) y KVAN (Países Bajos) invita a presentar propuestas de ponencias para participar en el Congreso Internacional intitulado Archivos sin fronteras que se celebrará el 30 y 31 de agosto de 2010 en el Palacio de la Paz en La Haya, Países Bajos. Este congreso conmemora la primera Conferencia Archivística Internacional que tuvo lugar en Bruselas en 1910, hace exactamente un siglo. Archivos sin fronteras centra su atención en la importancia que tienen los archivos para el buen funcionamiento del gobierno en el contexto internacional. Una buena gestión de los archivos es una condición obligatoria para la continuidad, eficacia y transparencia de los servicios tanto públicos como privados, y la forma en que rinden cuentas. En varios aspectos, la importancia de los archivos transciende las fronteras, particularmente desde la perspectiva de la globalización y la Sociedad de la Información. Archivos sin fronteras ofrecerá sesiones relacionadas con los temas: 'Solidaridad Archivística', 'Derechos Humanos y Archivos', 'Archivos Transnacionales', y 'Archivos, la Construcción del Estado Nación y la Identidad Nacional'. Damos la bienvenida a conferenciantes de todo el mundo. Se admiten todas las propuestas relacionadas con estos cuatro temas, presentadas en Español o Inglés, a más tardar el 1 de Febrero de 2010.
